While it is true consuming large amounts of bad fats contributes to weight gain, people need to realize that by cutting all fats from their diet, most importantly the essential fatty acids (EFAs), they can end up hurting the body. There are good fats, which the body simply can't live without, and there are bad fats that can clog up the arteries.
